Research Expertise
I am primarily interested in understanding the firm, in particular its (i) raison d’être, (ii) nature, (iii) scale and scope, and (iv) strategy. That is to say, (i) why the firm exists; (ii) which main constituents it includes within boundaries; (iii) in what ways do the horizontal and vertical relationships (i.e., the inter-organisational relationships, and the arm’s-length relations and business relationships respectively) of the focal firm affect the delimitation of its vertical and horizontal boundaries (circumscribing the resources and competences owned and controlled and the activities performed, and separating those from external ones); and (iv) how it devises and implements its strategy.
In addition, I must confess my incipient and unelaborated interest in the Philosophy of (Social) Science. The ontological, epistemological, methodological, and aetiological assumptions of the three main alternative philosophies (namely Positivism, Postmodernism, and Critical Realism) are in this respect quite relevant.
