Abstract
In this paper we present an overview of the contingencies that enable effective alliance capability development. Our research goal is to determinate those factors that contribute to an effective alliance knowledge management system. We consider both organization-specific elements and external environmental factors and analyze how these factors drive the way in which alliances are effectively managed. Our hypotheses are tested on a sample of 140 Belgian companies using lineair regression. We find that the top management team's involvement with the company's alliances has the strongest impact on the development of alliance management knowledge systems.
