Abstract
This study questions the validity of the operationalisations of Macneil's norms which have beenused in published studies. It compares the evaluation of two B2B exchanges using publishedmeasures of norms with new measures which it asserts take fuller account of Macneil's concepts.The discrepancies between the results are statistically significant.
