    PhD Studentship – Business-to-Business Services

Applications are invited for a three-year full-time PhD studentship, funded LUMS, to commence October 2008. The focus of study will be Business-to-Business Services, and is to complement an ESRC AIM Fellowship on this subject to be undertaken by Dr Martin Spring, who will supervise the Ph.D. The precise research question and method has yet to be defined and will be determined in collaboration with the successful applicant. The studentship covers tuition fees and a maintenance grant of £12,500 per annum for three years.

Candidates should have a first degree at 2:1 level or equivalent and preferably a relevant Masters degree. The exact combination of disciplines is not important: it may include business& management, information systems, sociology, economics, economic geography, or history. The most important requirements are an interest in and aptitude for industry-based qualitative research into Business-to-Business Services, and well-developed academic writing skills.

Applicants should complete an application form as indicated on the Department of Management Science website (www.lums.lancs.ac.uk/departments/ManSci/Research/). Additionally, applicants should provide a research proposal for a possible study in the area of Business-to-Business Services according to the guidelines via the above mentioned web page. The deadline for applications is 12 noon on Friday 27th June 2008 and it is anticipated that interviews will take place during week commencing 14th July. NB: Due to the short timescale please ensure that we receive all supporting documentation by the deadline.

Enquiries on administrative aspects of the application process should be directed to Gay Bentinck at g.bentinck@lancaster.ac.uk. Enquiries on the research theme and approach should be directed to Martin Spring at m.spring@lancaster.ac.uk.
