PhD Scholarships - Innovation and Entrepreneurship
BI Norwegian Business School bi.edu/phd offers a four year doctoral programme in
business administration. The programme features six areas of specialization:
Economics, Finance, Innovation and Entrepreneurship, Leadership and Organization,
Marketing, and Strategic Management.
The Department of Innovation and Economic Organisation seeks up to 4 new PhD
candidates to complete their PhD within the PhD specialization Innovation and
Entrepreneurship. Candidates should ideally have a background within the fields of
social sciences and/or business and economics. The candidates should be interested
in an academic career and have good communication skills. An important goal for
the PhD programme is to have candidates hired at leading research institutions once
they have completed their PhD.
Department of Innovation and Economic Organisation at BI Norwegian Business
School is known for having faculty involved in academic research and research
communication at an international level. The department does research and teaching
within central topics within innovation, entrepreneurship, economic organisation and

The following options are possible:
• 2 open positions relating to the Department’s activities.
• 2 positions in health innovation within research projects to be conducted in
collaboration with the Department of Informatics at University of Oslo and Oslo
University Hospital.
o 1PhD position is associated with the project “Responsive Architectures for
Innovation in Collaborative Healthcare Services” (REACH) and will study ICT service

o 1 PhD position is associated with the project ”From local breakthroughs in
knowledge to integration in medical practice” (KINT) focussing the development and
implementation of new minimal invasive surgery. See the KINT project’s web pages:

The doctoral programme is an important element of the department’s research
agenda and of BI’s vision to become one of the leading research business schools in
Europe. The selected candidates can expect close supervision and will be working
closely with the faculty and their place of work will be at the BI Norwegian Business
School in Oslo where they will join a group of PhD students.

Applicants must have completed a two year (120 ECTS) Master’s Degree with thesis
work (preferably a Master of Science) by January 2012 to be considered for a
scholarship. An average of grade B or better is required. The four-year scholarship is
set according to the Norwegian State Salary Scale, and currently pays NOK 365.300
per year (approximately USD 66,000). The position is linked to The Norwegian Public
Service Pension Fund (Statens Pensjonskasse). The scholarship involves 25%
TA/RA responsibilities. If applicants are otherwise equally qualified, female applicants
will be given preference.

• A project proposal (5-10 pages including topic, proposed method, schedule)

your skills as a researcher (a minimum of 2 letters)
• Certificates from previously completed courses at the doctoral level, if requesting
approval of these for the Ph.D. programme at BI Norwegian Business School (see
last section of § 3.1.1 in our Ph.D. Regulations)
• A complete list of all publications and/or other documented relevant activities
Please note that all documents must be uploaded in the electronic application.

forwarded after the application deadline will not be considered. Exceptions will only
be made for students who are completing their master’s degree in 2011 and do not
have a final certificate when applying.
